The Global Impact Investing Network was conceived in October 2007, when the Rockefeller Foundation gathered a small group of investors to discuss the needs of the emergent impact investing industry. Just over a year later, the GIIN was formally constituted as an independent organization. These three initiatives form the first projects of the new organization. The GIIN is currently operating under the fiscal sponsorship of the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA), which provides it with its 501(c)3 charitable status under US law.
